The 6 levels of drywall finish
Board is up and screwed off. No tape, no mud. Every wall starts right here.
Level 0: temporary constructionTape set in joint compound and nothing more. It seals the joints. It is not meant to be looked at.
Level 1: attics, plenums, above ceilingsA thin coat over the tape, and every screw head covered. Tool marks are still allowed.
Level 2: garages, storage, behind tileJoints and fasteners get coated again. Flat enough to carry a heavy texture.
Level 3: walls getting heavy textureOne more pass on joints and screws, then sanded smooth. The everyday standard for flat paint.
Level 4: flat paint and light textureA full skim over the entire surface, joints and field alike. Nothing shows through gloss paint or low window light.
Level 5: gloss paint, big windows, long hallsNew construction, remodels and repairs. Commercial or residential. Call with a touch-up or a whole building.
Full board hang and tape for new homes, offices, shops and remodels. This is the part nobody sees and everything depends on.
The highest finish there is. A full skim coat over every inch, so the wall reads as one seamless surface.
Match the texture already on your walls, or create something new that gives the room depth.
Cracks, holes and water damage, blended until the repair disappears into the wall around it.
Ask about hot mud to speed up your project. It sets in minutes instead of drying overnight.

One of ours, mid-finish
Anybody can show you a painted room. Here is one before the paint. Tap the pins and look close.
Exposed timber gets masked in film and tape before a single bucket is opened.
Wide, feathered coats across the ceiling, so no seam shows once the paint is on.
Each fastener head gets its own coats. Go ahead, count the white dots.
Vaulted ceilings get worked from rolling scaffold, up close, like any other wall.

The name on the shirt
Eric Ibey is a journeyman. He has been hanging, taping and texturing walls across Western Montana for more than 30 years, and he is still his own toughest critic.
“Call me with your touch-up needs or with new construction.” Eric
On a deadline?
Regular joint compound air-dries, often overnight between coats. Hot mud sets by chemistry, in as little as 20 minutes, so coats can stack in one visit.
Coat. Wait for it to dry. Come back tomorrow.
Coat. Sets. Coat again. Same visit.
Same-day service on some remodels and patch work.
